The Würzburg Residence, one of the most remarkable baroque palaces in
Europe, was built in 1720-1744 by the two Prince Bishops Johann Philipp Franz von Schönborn
and Friedrich Carl von Schönborn.
Construction was supervised by the official architect Balthasar Neumann.
The Venetian painter Giovanni Battista Tiepolo painted the frescos of the main staircase ceiling
and the walls of the Kaisersaal.
