The sea fortress Soumenlinna was designed and built in 1748 by Augustin
Ehrensvärd on a group of islands in front of Helsinki when Finland was part of the Swedish kingdom.
At that time more people were living in Soumenlinna than in Helsinki.
In 1808 the fortress surrendered to the Russians and Finland became part of the Russian Empire, until
1917 when Finland became independent.
