The Cathedral of Modena (Duomo), dedicated to the patron saint of the town San Geminiano (4th century), was built between 1099 and 1184.
The bell tower (Torre Ghirlandina), used for civil purposes, was built, up to the forth floor, at the same time as the cathedral. The upper part of the tower was built between 1261 and 1319.
The Town Hall (Palazzo Comunale) was rebuilt in the 17th and 18th centuries with new facade and arcades.
