The shrine of Jongmyo, built in 1395 and located in the capital city of Hanyang (Seoul), was the royal ancestral Confucian shrine during the Joseon dynasty (1392-1910), where memorial rites for the deceased rulers were held.
Jongmyo consists of two major ritual halls, Jeongjeon (Main Hall) and Yeongnyeongjeon (Hall of Everlasting Peace), housing the memorial tablets of kings and queens.
