The first atomic bomb exploded on 6th of August 1945 about 580 meters (1,900 feet) above Hiroshima City, 150 meters (500 feet) away from the Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall. Built in 1915, it was the only building still standing in the area. Today the structure is a symbol of the immense destructive power of nuclear weapons, a memorial place for the victims of the bomb, a plead for elimination of nuclear weapons as well as for world peace.
