The Alhambra, located on a hill in Granada on the foot of the Sierra Nevada in
southern Spain, was built by the sultans of the Nasrid dynasty (1232 - 1492) in the 13th and 14th
centuries.
It consists of the military fortress of the Alcazaba, the palaces, the medina with its baths
and residences for the servants, and the rural residence of the Generalife with its gardens.
On the adjacent hill lies the oldest quarter of Granada, the Albayzin.
