Taal Volcano, located on the Luzon Island, is a volcanic island inside Taal Lake.
The lake lies within the caldera, which was formed by a great depression as a result of earlier large volcanic eruptions.
The volcano, still active, has had 33 recorded eruptions since 1572, the last one took place in 1977.
