Stralsund and Wismar represent ideal cities of the Hanseatic League
in the Baltic Sea from the 13th to the 15th centuries, and contributed to the development of
the brick construction techniques, as, for example, the City Hall of Stralsund and several
brick churches and cathedrals. In the 17th and 18th centuries these cities were under
Swedish rule.
