The Palau de la Música Catalana and the Hospital de Sant Pau were designed by the architect LluÍs Domènech i Montaner (1850-1923) in the Modernist style (Art Nouveau).
The Palau de la Música Catalana, built between 1905 and 1908, is a Concert Hall built for the choral society Orfeó Català.
The Hospital de Sant Pau, a group of buildings built between 1902 and 1930, was built with the legacy left by the banker Pau Gil, as a successor of the Hospital de Santa Creu founded in 1401 to cope with the growing population of the city.
